Mental health! A very interesting topic right? With the rate of things, is it possible for anyone to be healthy mentally? I know you have this and many more questions running through your mind. Yeah, I see your struggle to become that great being you have aspired to be, kindly follow.
Mental health is important in every stage of life, from childhood, adolescence through adulthood.
Well, World Health Organization (W.H.O) defined Mental health as a “state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can contribute to his/her community.”
Mental health can’t be overemphasized because it controls the other aspects of health. That is, if you are mentally healthy, you should be socially healthy. If you are mentally healthy, you should be physically healthy(though handicapped). Mental health starts in our hearts. Our heart is our seat of emotion, our mind the room of thoughts and creativity. It is funny how a larger percentage of people suffer from one type of mental illness or the other.
Depression is quite rampant now. Being mentally ill is not limited to being mad. Mental illness is in different ways such as schizophrenia, Dissociative disorders, Bipolar disorder, Depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), and others.
Mental illness is not by age,anyone can suffer from mental illness in as much as they have life in them. The quest to live well can cause mental illness, if you are unable to find and apply the appropriate resources needed to live well.
A wealthy man that has a lot of investments or assets won’t have control over them because his state of reasoning is under attack.
Our mental health is a delicate matter, we can’t skip but to talk about it. It is rare to find anyone on the street not suffering from any type of these mental maladies.
Although, Depression seems to be leading in all the types of mental illness we have. According to a source, Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called a major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Statistics from W.H.O says that about 280 million people are depressed yearly. Various factors cause depression and we would be treating them under the umbrella of mental illness.
Various factors that contribute to mental illness/depression are;
